Bakelaar Jewellers began in 1967 when Neil and Alice Bakelaar purchased Johnstone Jewellers in LIstowel. Originally located on Main Street on top of the Maitland River, the store faced frequent flooding. In 1970, it was incorporated as Bakelaar Jewellers Limited. After relocation to Wallace Avenue; due to a conduit reconstruction project in 1986, the store returned to Main Street in 1994.

That same year, Tim and his father Neil helped restore the Old Post Office Clock Tower, which Tim still maintains every week. In 2000, Neil and Alice retired, passing the business to Tim and Karen. The store evolved with the times, becoming a Canadian Diamond Boutique in 2014 and hosting notable guess from Waterford Crystal, Waterford City, Ireland. In 2024, Waterford Crystal acknowledged Bakelaar Jewellers as a Penrose Level Customer; which only two other Canadian Companies were recognized with.

Since 1967, Bakelaar Jewellers has remained a proud supporter of the North Perth Community, crediting its success to dedicated staff over the years and loyal customers.
